Project Pretty as a Picture #18 – create your own reality

This picture is set up. It’s a peony inside a paper pom pom surrounded by glitter, confetti and petals. But that’s not what I see when I look at it – I see an exotic, beautiful mandala sitting on a sparkling lake. I see magic.

I am very close to my dear cousin, Benaya. Over the years he’s come up with some cracking pieces of advice in the form of catchphrases, but the one that stuck with me the most (apart from “insanity is a virtue”, which I also appreciate) is “it’s not part of my reality”.

Every time I find myself getting sucked into obsessing over someone or something that’s upset me, or seeing the bad in life instead of the good, I remind myself that I can create my own reality, and that I can choose what, or who, gets to be a part of it. It’s one of the most liberating thoughts in the world – try it on for size!
